Fume cupboards are often used for procedures involving open flames, volatile solvents, or unattended heating apparatus — all of which carry an increased risk of fire. When such hazards are present, it’s vital to incorporate an automatic fire suppression system directly into the fume cupboard to ensure swift and reliable protection.
Firetrace suppression systems are designed specifically for installation inside fume cupboards to automatically detect and extinguish fires at source.
How It Works
The Firetrace system uses a heat-sensitive detection tube routed discreetly behind the fume cupboard’s rear baffle and across the duct connection. When exposed to flame or excessive heat, the pressurised tube ruptures. This sudden pressure loss is detected by the cylinder valve, which instantly activates and floods the fume cupboard chamber with an extinguishing agent — either dry powder, Carbon Dioxide (CO₂), or foam — delivered via diffuser nozzles mounted in the roof of the chamber.
