Extract Ductwork & Fans

We design, supply, and install complete extract ductwork and fan systems for fume cupboards and local exhaust ventilation (LEV) – whether for a single laboratory or a multi-lab installation, constant volume (CAV) or energy-saving variable volume (VAV).

An effective extract system is critical for safety

An effective extract system is critical to the safe and efficient operation of any fume cupboard or local exhaust ventilation (LEV) setup. At Fumair, we design and supply complete extract fan and ductwork systems to ensure reliable, compliant, efficient and long-lasting performance, whether for a single fume cupboard or a complex multi-laboratory installation.

Engineered to match the specific airflow requirements

Every system is engineered to match the specific airflow requirements of the application, with careful consideration given to pressure losses, noise levels, energy efficiency, and future service access. From corrosion-resistant fans and uPVC or PPS (polypropylene) ductwork to dampers, silencers, and termination cowls, we provide a complete, professionally designed and installed extract package – fully compliant with BS EN 14175, BESA DW/154 and HSG 258.

Safe, Reliable and regulatory compliant

Whether it’s part of a new laboratory build, a refurbishment project, or an upgrade to improve system performance, our highly experienced in-house teams will ensure your extract system meets the highest standards for safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance.

Extract Fans

Fumair specifies, supplies and installs a wide range of high-efficiency corrosion-resistant polypropylene centrifugal extract fans. Our fans are purpose-built for fume cupboard and LEV applications and engineered to withstand the harsh chemical environments typical of laboratory exhaust systems. All fans are carefully selected to match the required airflow volume and system resistance, ensuring reliability, safe containment and optimal energy performance, and are suitable for mounting internally or externally.

ATEX-Rated Fans for Hazardous Environments

For environments where explosive atmospheres may be present, such as laboratories handling flammable solvents or industrial processes involving combustible dusts, we supply ATEX-rated polypropylene centrifugal fans compliant with the requirements of ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU.

These fans are specifically designed to prevent ignition sources and are constructed using anti-static materials and explosion-proof components. Each unit is certified for use in designated Zone 1 or Zone 2 environments, depending on the classification of the area and the substances involved.

ATEX fans can be specified with the same corrosion-resistant casings, offering both safety and durability without compromise. If you’re unsure whether you require an ATEX-rated model, we’re happy to advise based on your risk assessment and operational setup.

Belt-Drive vs Direct-Drive Fans

We supply both belt-driven and direct-drive centrifugal fans, each offering specific advantages depending on the application.

Belt-driven fans have been largely superseded by modern direct-drive alternatives. However, they remain in use for certain critical applications where redundancy is essential, for example, in systems that require a run-and-standby motor configuration. In these cases, dual motors are fitted to allow automatic switchover in the event of a failure, maintaining continuous extraction without downtime.

Direct-drive fans, are now the standard choice for most laboratory and LEV systems. The impeller is mounted directly onto the motor shaft, resulting in fewer moving parts, lower maintenance requirements, and a more compact footprint. They are also quieter and more energy-efficient, particularly when paired with an inverter (VSD) for variable speed control.
