Fumair are one of the few fume cupboard manufacturers that produce
their own range of complimentary airflow monitors, airflow alarms, sash alarms and fan control
systems. Our reputation is such that we have, over the years, supplied
them to many other manufacturers for fitting to their own extract
and containment equipment. Their ease of fitting meanour airflow monitors can be
retro fitted to just about any piece of equipment where accurate airflow
measurement is required.
We currently produce two models:
Fumair FumeGuard
A culmination of 30 years experience, the Fumair FumeGuard is probably
the best value airflow monitor currently available.
Features include:
| • |
High intensity coloured LED scale
representing airflow. |
| • |
Audible and visual airflow failure
alarms. |
| • |
Mains supply failure alarm. |
| • |
Audible and visual sash over-height
alarms with 5-minute mute. |
| • |
On-delay to hold off alarms while
the attached extract fan gets to operating speed. |
| • |
Off-delay to purge the fume cupboard
of any remaining fumes. |
| • |
Service reminder to warn the operator
that the equipment is due a maintenance/service visit
(in accordance with COSHH or other relevant requirements).
The period of the reminder is user settable and can either
relate to calendar months or the number of hours in use
since the last service. |
| • |
Instrument test facility. |
| • |
Volt-free changeover contacts for
on/off fan control, airflow proven and airflow failed. |
| • |
Remote on/off and keypad lock option
for switching via a Building Management System or time-switch. |
| • |
Easy, flexible installation. Can
be flush fitted into a standard 2-gang electrical back-box. |
| • |
Multi-speed operation (via a suitable
inverter) offering potentially huge energy savings. |
| • |
Can be supplied with an integral
direct-on-line (d.o.l). starter or our popular inverter
control system. |

Fumair AMS-6
The Fumair AMS-6 is a fully featured airflow monitor and control system
primarily intended for use with our inverter control system.
Features include:
| • |
Digital LED display representing
airflow velocity in m/s. |
| • |
Audible and visual airflow failure
alarms. |
| • |
Mains supply failure alarm. |
| • |
Audible and visual sash over-height
alarms with 5-minute mute. |
| • |
"True" instrument test. |
| • |
Volt-free outputs for full control
of extract and supply air fans. |
| • |
Volt-free outputs for switching and
timing solenoid valves, pumps and bafflewash/scrubber
systems. |
| • |
Password protected software-driven
menu allowing full adjustment of all of the above settings
and more. |

Control Systems
The use of extract fan control systems can provide easier operation,
simplified electrical installation, a more efficient, quieter extract
system and potentially huge energy savings.
As well as supplying and installing advanced VAV control systems Fumair
design and manufacture a range of control systems specifically designed
for integration with our airflow monitors.
Direct-on-line (d.o.l.) starter
A simple system that provides on/off control of a single or three-phase
extract fan and thermal over-current protection. Can be a stand-alone
wall-mounted unit or connected to our airflow monitors to enable on/off
control from the airflow monitor keypad.
Inverter
An inverter drive controls the speed of a 3-phase fan. The inverter
itself can be powered from a single or three-phase supply.
An inverter, when integrated with our airflow monitors, can provide:
| • |
More control
The inverter allows fine-tuning of the speed of the fan to achieve
exactly the required volume. Other adjustable parameters include
acceleration / deceleration times and multiple speed set points. |
| • |
More protection
The inverter features over-current, over-voltage, under-voltage
and thermal protection, auto-restart following a mains failure
and onboard diagnostics. |
| • |
Quieter extraction
By fine-tuning the speed of the fan there is no need for noisy
volume control dampers in the main extract system. |
| • |
Energy savings
The system can be configured to give multiple speeds linked
to sash height, thereby extracting less conditioned air from
the laboratory. See the Energy Savings Chart in the side column. |
| • |
Safety
An "idle" speed setting that continues to vent the
fume cupboard and any attached storage cabinets even when the
fume cupboard is not in use, thus preventing the build-up of
fumes and the potential for backdraughts. |
| • |
Less Downtime
There is no need for regular maintenance. On-board diagnostics
and data logging simplifies fault-finding and allows greater
"over-the-phone" support from our servicing staff. |
| • |
Easy adjustment
The speed of the fan can be adjusted to overcome dirty filters
etc, or to achieve a new face velocity - all from within the
laboratory. |
| • |
Simplified wiring
The control system AND extract fan can derive their electrical
power from one single-phase 240v source (usually above the fume
cupboard). |
| • |
Room extract
The system can be programmed to provide 24hrs a day, 7 days
a week room extraction without the need for a separate, dedicated
system. |
|
 |

 |
It
is a fact that fume cupboards waste large amounts of energy
by extracting heated air from the workplace.
A 1500mm wide fume cupboard running 24 hours a day at a face
velocity of 0.5m/s is extracting heated/cooled air at a cost
of approximately 22p per hour, not much, but it is £5.28
per day, £37 per week, £1,925 per year, per fume
cupboard.
By using a Fumair airflow monitor in conjunction with an inverter
driven fan, an "idle" speed can be set whereby the
fan will continue to run at a reduced rate when the fume cupboard
is not in use. This idle speed can be set to a required level
to maintain ventilation from the storage cabinets and/or general
room extract.
By using a two speed system, where the fan speed is reduced
when the fume cupboard sash is less than half open, even greater
savings can be achieved. |
